After a couple decades as a university advisor, assisting students with program issues and personal issues, which, of course, affect their programs, I started a business working with busy families who needed reprieves of varying sorts. I ran their errands, minded their homes while away, tended gardens, and assisted seniors with downsizing and moving—becoming companion, confidant and advocate. My recent quest for new purpose led to a want for deeper heart connections. I had trained as a life celebrant in 2011, and realized that I needed to make this more my vocation, and became further certified as a Grief Recovery Specialist®.
I am a daughter, sister, spouse, mother, a recent grandmother, friend, neighbour, and homeowner. I have a certificate in Event Planning, and years of experience as editor and writer. I balance my life with gardening, reading, music, knitting, weight training, running, skating, golfing (poorly), and, motorcycle riding—much to my father’s chagrin.
My dear dad is now demented; my own journey through the Grief Recovery Method®, recognising that I was grieving the loss of the father as I had known him for so many decades, became key to my understanding that grief is not only about death, but the loss of relationships with people, places, and things—tangible and otherwise.
